Awareness about life settlements is exploding through social media. There are over 1,200 life settlement professionals on LinkedIn, more than 300 videos on you tube, and almost 1.5 millions views of Betty White’s “I’m Still Hot” Video from the Lifeline Program.

Social Media is one of the most effective ways to spread our word about what we do and why we do it and because social media provides captive audiences with thousands of attention-grabbing options, industry participants have to find quick, easy ways to distribute their information and to keep fans engaged.

One trendy tool being used in social media to educate facts and figures are knows as infographics.
Innovative and easy to digest, infographics combine keyfacts, compelling stories, and interesting imagery that work to start conversations both online and off. Check out this infographic that explains how LinkedIn works and this one that compares the Ipads. Great isn’t it? By sharing simple messages that can be understood with little or no prior knowledge of the subject matter, infographics can be a great tool to educate consumers and investor about Life Settlements.

The Life Insurance Settlement Association is developing a long-term strategy to educate consumers and professionals about the benefits of a life settlement. It is all about mainstreaming education from the consumer to the investor and social media will play an enormous part.

Besides learning about the great benefits of social media, it will be crucial for you join us and learn to prepare for the certain challenges that social media can present.

The latest trend has detractors of the industry hiring followers on Twitter to “tweet” negative remarks…and someone can do that for as little as five bucks! In the web world, one can hire a real human, not a computer generated program, to send you text messages, poke you on Facebook, prank your friends, create a fake breakup and even do your homework. Check out this website called Fiverr. Here you can find someone who is willing to “tweet anything you want to 70,000 followers on Twitter once a day, every day, for a whole MONTH for $5”. If this gets in the wrong hands, a lot of collateral damage can be done.

So you may be asking yourself, “what should I do protect myself?” The answer: be present in the social media world. Every organization should be monitoring blogs to find what people are saying about them and have the ability to react quickly to what’s being said. See you at our fall conference.
