Focus on Standards

The LISA Terminology SIG
Has Elected a New Chair

The LISA Terminology SIG elected Hanne Smaadahl, Senior Terminologist for Business Objects, to replace Kara Warburton of IBM as its Chair during the recent the LISA Forum Europe in Berlin.

Warburton has served as Chair for the Terminology SIG since its creation in 2000. During that period, the SIG has come to be a very respected voice within the globalization industry as it has tirelessly evangelized terminology and its critical role in creating and maintaining global brands. It has contributed to language standards, run several surveys, published various reports, contributed numerous presentations and panels to LISA Forums and Global Summits, participated in LISA TouchPoint Advisories and written several articles for the Globalization Insider. (All of this knowledge and experience is documented and downloadable on the LISA Terminology SIG site. Simply click here.)

Warburton will now focus on the drive to have TBX, the LISA open standard for TermBase eXchange, accepted as an ISO standard. She will remain on the SIG as the Representative from IBM.

As the new Chair, Smaadahl plans to build on the legacy that Warburton and the SIG have created. She will lead the group in future projects that will focus on developing and promoting terminology management as part of the full product life cycle, from development to sales, and from marketing to customer care. Her vision includes an active industry group with a strategic, as well as a practical, focus that fosters community and cooperation among terminology professionals across the globalization industry and beyond.

Smaadahl has spent the last six years as a Terminologist, first with Microsoft and currently with Business Objects, a leading business intelligence software company. As the Senior Terminologist for Business Objects, her mandate is to develop the company's terminology management strategy and infrastructure. Before joining Business Objects in June 2006, Hanne built her career in the localization industry as a Terminologist, Language Specialist and Program Manager.

The following companies are currently members of the LISA Terminology SIG:

Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Brigham Young University, Business Objects, HP, Idiom, IBM, Interverbum, Nokia, SAS Institute, Scriptware, SDL, the Translation Bureau of Canada, Tedopres, Tilde/EuroTermBank and the World Bank
