1. Why is LISA forming the Global Products SIG?

Global product certification is a hot topic right now because clients want to know what works and what doesn't as they integrate their systems globally. Many companies are now attempting to comply with international standards on a regular basis as products are released worldwide. Several LISA members have asked the organization to reach beyond technical standards to develop ones related to business issues in the GILT arena. As part of its mission to act as a nexus for people involved in international business, LISA believes that it has a responsibility to establish a collaborative framework for addressing global product issues to promote GILT standards. The Global Products SIG is one response to this need.

2. What is the SIG's proposed mission?

to provide a collaborative framework for the world's product producers to address global issues,
to promote international standards and language compliance in products that are released worldwide,

…with the ultimate goal being to create a certification process and a recognized label for globally certified products.

3. What are the SIG's proposed goals?

to identify the hallmarks of a global product.
to identify the standards required to produce and release a global product.
to create a test framework for the standards identified for compliance as a global product.
to create a certification process and a recognized label for globally certified products.

4. What are the proposed next steps?

to identify LISA members who are interested in "getting the ball rolling."
to identify a chairperson.
to determine where to focus first: on business issues or on technical issues.
