Director’s letter
Dear LISA Members and Industry Professionals,
LISA has several objectives in 2001. The three most important are to broaden and expand the membership base, provide members with a better return on their association investment, and develop a larger base of industry professionals. As you are aware, we are meeting some of these objectives through a series of Strategic Alliance and Content Partnering Initiatives. Under these programs, LISA either provides content to other organizations conferences or, develops supplements in business or trade periodicals. In both instances, content is driven by globalization industry issues and participation and visibility by LISA members. LISA members who take advantage of these opportunities benefit by exposure to other vertical market associations through leveraging promotional and educational presentations made at a variety of conferences and workshops. Special advertising discounts are offered in a range of publications coupled with the opportunity to provide content for Globalization Supplements. Both of these initiatives are driving corporate membership. However, if we are to continue the momentum, we need members help in identifying other associations and magazines with whom we can partner. In order to attract individuals working in the globalization industry, LISA is creating a new membership type—the Industry Professional. This membership category will provide an opportunity to a variety of independents seeking access to the Best Practices and localization information and training that LISA can offer. Through a series of publicity campaigns, email programs and member promotions, LISA will recruit participation from the ranks of Consultants, Project Managers, Translators, and individuals working in a globalization related function in companies that are not yet LISA corporate members. This category of member will be entitled to post their CV's on the website free of charge, receive the Newsletter and have limited access to the LISA Members Domain, while benefiting from attendance at one LISA forum Free of Charge. LISA General Assembly Members will benefit from the development of the new LISA web site and the resulting ability to post their career want ads, press releases, white papers, surveys and seminars or workshops without cost! Associate Members will be granted similar or discounted services. In the near future, the new site will provide special advertising and marketing opportunities for LISA members to gain even greater exposure through increased links and free information listings that can be searched on by customers seeking globalization services and information. LISA is updating the LISA Education Initiative Taskforce programs to provide a ready information resource of industry related courseware, training programs and educational opportunities. Students in these listed programs will be allowed to post their CV's providing additional personnel resources for LISA members. All of these programs, coupled with those underway by the new LISA Advisory Committee, will position the association at the forefront of the industry by providing programs and services that can benefit the localization community as a whole. From information and personnel recruitment, through to vertical market client exposure and discounted advertising, LISA is changing it's structure to better meet the needs of its constituency.
