The KANT Translation System
From R&D to Large-scale Deployment

KANT, a knowledge-based translation system for multilingual information dissemination in pre-defined technical domains which has been deployed for French and Spanish translations at Caterpillar, Inc., generated considerable interest at the IATT Workshop in Washington DC in June 1997. In this article, the authors give a brief technical summary of the system, followed by a discussion of the user’s perspective and experience and a discussion of ongoing work and future plans for the KANT software.
