LISA localisation panel at the Software Publisher Association’s (SPA) European Conference in June 1993, Cannes
LISA is organizing a localisation panel for SPA's European conference in Cannes. The panel will be comprised of translation service bureaus and software publishers. Profiles will be mixed so as to get the large, medium and small company points-of- view. The panel's objective is to discuss the localisation process within the framework of Cost, Time-to-Market and, Quality. Very often these criteria are compromised depending upon the priority assigned to the job, the market, the product being localised, it's design and, or, the publisher's capability to support the entire process. By starting with a set of questions to position the desirable combinations, the resulting dialogues will be a meaningful exchange of information which underscores the technical characteristics and production methods to be considered by publishers and suppliers. A question that a large publisher might ask is: 'What investments must be made, in terms of technology and in-house resources, in order to localize products for the major European markets and to achieve simultaneous launch dates in each of the countries involved?' Or, a smaller developer may consider: 'What value is there to create a terminology database with respect to quality and cost of translation for future localization?' LISA members are encouraged to submit two or three questions to Mike Anobile in Geneva before December 15th. For each, simply state the nature and scope of the reply. If your questions are selected for the panel, you will be asked to draft your responses so that handouts are made for the attendees. In return, you will have approximately 10-15 minutes to present your ideas during the panel session. If you would like to participate on the SPA Localisation Panel please send your entry questions to LISA administration before the 15th of December. |
