The multi-tenanted architecture processes more than 2.5 billion words per year and hosts upwards of 30,000 active users.

Global Information Management solutions are increasingly considered “mission-critical” to global organizations. In an April 2009 survey of SDL customers, 69% of respondents indicated that they had experienced a greater than 20% improvement in time-to-market as a result of using SDL’s translation management technology. Customers who opt for hosted or SaaS offerings, also benefit from significant cost savings and reduced risk by leveraging SDL’s European and North American data centers to host, manage and support their enterprise translation management solution.

Global companies tend to face similar translation and localization challenges. However, varying degrees of budget restrictions and available IT systems and resources often impact their ability to deploy Global Information Management technology. SDL has been active in the hosted SaaS market for many years, providing customers with the flexibility to choose the deployment that best fits their needs. In addition to perpetual license agreements, the company offers solutions through ‘The Cloud’ or hosted solutions (enabling customers to deploy their solution offsite in a secure data center), as well as yearly or multi-year SaaS subscription models.

“The Cloud and the internet in general are central to the SDL Group’s strategy and approach to managing global content,” commented Mark Lancaster, CEO and Chairman of SDL. “SDL will continue to develop hosted software solutions through ‘The Cloud’ and on-premise software to suit our client needs to translate and review content, access shared terminology, translation memory and machine translation. What is absolutely crucial in the translation supply chain is allowing the translators to perform the complex and highly interactive activities they need to actually translate highly fragmented content efficiently. To do this they need significant functionality at their fingertips and hence use the thick client technology of SDL Trados® Studio to be effective in their work, while being able to plug into the translation management supply chain seamlessly.”

“We are seeing significant market uptake on the adoption and overall utilization of our hosted offerings,” said Alan Sloan, CEO of SDL’s Language Technologies division. “As our recent customer survey revealed, the time-to-market benefits of Global Information Management investments are compelling for all of our customers. Add to that the costs savings, quick deployment and ease-of-management provided by our hosted and SaaS alternatives, it’s clear why we’ve experienced such impressive growth and scalability in 2009.”

Many of SDL’s customers will be attending Innovate this week in Santa Clara, CA, on 9th and 10th February, where they will hear more about SDL’s Global Information Management vision and latest product developments.

About SDL

SDL is the leader in Global Information Management solutions, which provide increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of high-quality multilingual content to global markets. The company’s integrated Web Content Management, eCommerce, Structured Content and Language Technologies, combined with its Language Services drive down the cost of content creation, management, translation and publishing. SDL solutions increase conversion ratios and customer satisfaction through targeted information that reaches multiple audiences around the world through different channels.

Global industry leaders who rely on SDL include ABN-Amro, Bosch, Canon, CNH, FICO, Hewlett-Packard, KLM, Microsoft, NetApp, Philips, SAP, Sony and Virgin Atlantic. SDL Global Authoring Management System™ has seen a significant rise in its global customer install base, as well as over 1400 installations of the desktop client software, SDL AuthorAssistant™, as a result of the successful strategic partnership between SDL and Adobe Systems Incorporated. The technology has made important contributions to SDL’s recent award-winning success and users have also set up an independent Special Interest Group to share best practices and to network with other users.

Global brands, such as Hewlett Packard, Avaya and NetApp use SDL Global Authoring Management System as part of their authoring processes to:

- Enable consistency in authoring style across multiple authors and multiple formats

- Improve brand consistency by managing and applying consistent terminology at the content creation stage

- Actively reduce translation costs upfront by reusing previously written content

The results from SDL’s annual Global Authoring Survey suggest that more businesses are now writing technical content intended for a worldwide audience, whether translated or not. It is therefore vital that businesses create clear and unambiguous content to facilitate the translation process and satisfy the demands of global customers. With SDL Global Authoring Management System in place as part of the authoring process, global brands are well-equipped to write content for a worldwide audience.

“SDL Global Authoring Management System is a crucial component in our Global Information Management strategy, as it will enable our authors to prepare content for translation, help reduce our translation costs and apply our corporate style guide rules and terminology in all customer-facing documentation,” commented Elizabeth M. Taylor, Localization Manager at FICO, who has set up a Special Interest Group for SDL Global Authoring Management System users. “We have recently established the group to share best practices, network with other users and identify potential product enhancements to contribute to the on-going development of SDL Global Authoring Management System.”

SDL AuthorAssistant, the desktop client software, has also experienced significant market expansion due to SDL’s partnership with Adobe, which has seen over 1400 users of Adobe FrameMaker ® 9 download the software. Its integration with Adobe FrameMaker 9 allows users to benefit from out-of-the-box style and linguistic rules to ensure consistent and clear content, as well as the ability to connect to terminology repositories and translation memories. “We are extremely pleased that the Adobe and SDL partnership enhances the rich functionality and success of Adobe FrameMaker 9, providing our customers with the most complete solution for their technical communication needs,” said Ritu Chaturvedi, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Adobe.

SDL Global Authoring Management System has recently made key contributions to SDL’s recent win in the Thames Valley Business of the Year Award 2009, as well as gaining specific recognition when SDL was included in the EContent list of 100 companies that matter most in the digital content industry. “We are delighted that SDL Global Authoring Management System is being recognized within the industry and by global businesses as an important and innovative technology to help facilitate a Global Information Management (GIM) strategy,” commented Sophie Hurst, Director – Product Marketing, SDL.

About SDL
SDL is the leader in Global Information Management solutions, which provide increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of high-quality multilingual content to global markets. Through a series of strategic acquisitions and research and development investment, SDL has expanded its technology footprint from Language Technology into Structured Content Technologies, Web Content Management and most recently eCommerce Technologies. To signal SDL’s end-to-end platform for managing the content lifecycle, the company is launching a new consolidated brand.

As of today, all business units in SDL, including SDL Tridion, SDL XySoft and SDL TRADOS Technologies, SDL Enterprise Technologies and SDL Language Services, will be referred to as divisions of SDL in a move to unify the SDL brand.

The different business units of SDL will become one of five specialized divisions:

•Structured Content Technologies

•Web Content Management Solutions

•eCommerce Technologies

•Language Technologies

•Language Services

SDL is strengthening this market-leading position and unified vision reflected in the brand and expresses that SDL is one, consolidated company with one single goal and mission.

The vision of the consolidated divisions is identical - SDL provides increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of products and content to global markets in their local language. This re-naming of the different divisions as part of SDL only affects the way we refer to the different solutions we provide. ”

For more information on SDL and to read an FAQ on the new branding and its impact, please visit www.sdl.com/en/sites/one_brand/

About SDL

SDL is the leader in Global Information Management solutions, which provide increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of high-quality multilingual content to global markets. Satiz is adopting SDL Structured Content Technologies to automate the process and reduce the cost of delivering multi-formatted information to its global customers, particularly in the automotive industry.

Satiz produces glove box manuals for 24 vehicle models in 12 languages for several automotive groups including FIAT, Iveco, CNH and Yamaha. In an increasingly competitive market, Satiz identified and executed a business strategy to move upstream and offer value-added services by supporting a company’s complete content lifecycle. Already a leading print and publishing vendor, the addition of SDL Structured Content Technologies enables Satiz to offer an even richer and more valuable array of services, including high-quality content creation and multi-channel content delivery, which further enhance Satiz’ expert status with its customers’ global products.

To achieve this strategy, Satiz looked for an end-to-end content management solution and found the best fit with SDL’s Structured Content Technologies division. For the management of DITA content, Satiz is deploying SDLTrisoft™ – a DITA Component Content Management system. Adopting DITA with a Component Content Management system enables Satiz to support the group’s manual processes with an automated system that facilitates content reuse, increasing the efficiency of creating and translating contents. Satiz also had the need for automating high-end print publishing for glove box manuals and selected SDL XPP™, an automated high-production publishing system for managing perfectly formatted, complex printing requirements.

To ensure consistency in writing style and terminology, as well as an improvement in translation quality, Satiz also chose to implement SDL Global Authoring Management System™. The innovative technology puts quality control directly in the hands of Satiz’ authors and editors, which improves the productivity of the authoring process and improves the quality of Satiz’ documentation. The combination of global authoring, Component Content Management and high-volume printing allows Satiz to achieve an efficient end-to-end global content lifecycle solution for its automotive customers.

“Choosing SDL Structured Content Technologies was a matter of competitive positioning for Satiz,” said Paolo Greguol, general manager, Satiz. “We are determined to be the leader in the industries we serve while remaining cost competitive. Our new structured content and publishing solution will drastically improve quality and throughput and greatly facilitate content reuse, which in turn boasts results and improves overall efficiency,” Greguol said.

”Satiz conducted a rigorous evaluation to select the tools that best aligned with its strategic business development goals,” said Lou Iuppa, vice president, business development, SDL Structured Content Technologies division. “The company knew exactly what it needed and found the best fit with SDL. We are very pleased to have been selected by such a strategic, growth-oriented company and I’m sure the industry will be hearing about even more services and capabilities that are the result of the new technology partnership Satiz has formed with SDL,” Iuppa said.

About Satiz

Satiz is one of the most important Italian companies operating in the sector of business communication. Specialized in the fields of technical publishing, advertisement and institutional communication, both internal and external, publishing, multimedia, and event management, it provides solutions to the most different requirements. Satiz offers a choice of communication solutions, ranging from the simplest to the most complex: from creating the layout for a corporate newsletter to the management of large scale projects which integrate a variety of different formats, platforms and channels.

Satiz produces technical documentation for industrial products, overseeing every aspect of the design and execution, from authoring to graphic design and layout, from multilingual translation to printing and distribution.

Drawing on experience gained in a variety of industrial sectors and in-depth knowledge of the life cycles of production processes, Satiz works alongside the client from the prototype stage right through to the production of the finished documentation, which is always clear, complete and accessible.

Satiz technical publishing teams are comprised of skilled professionals with specialized knowledge in the fields of technical authoring and communication: their aim is to deliver products of the highest quality in terms of both form and content, using the stylistic approach best suited to the type of documentation required (user manuals, parts catalogues, after-sales assistance documentation, procedural handbooks) and the intended platform (print or electronic copy).

For more information, visit www.satiz.it

About SDL

SDL is the leader in Global Information Management solutions, which provide increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of high-quality multilingual content to global markets. SDL is delighted to have been chosen as the winner of Business of the Year Award and is thrilled that the SDL Foundation, a charity set up by SDL to provide support for sustainable, structural development for disadvantaged communities around the globe, was a deciding factor for the TVBMA judges.

Awards chairman David Murray said: "SDL, a previous winner in these awards, is a company with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. It is well managed with a big commitment to maintaining and improving quality. Ninety percent of SDL’s revenues come from outside the UK – so judges were impressed with the company’s ability to achieve very resilient results in what is a global downturn."

SDL has also been nominated as a company that makes a difference to the digital content industry in the EContent Content Management category this year. SDL is the leader in Global Information Management solutions, which provide increased business agility to enterprises by accelerating the delivery of high-quality multilingual content to global markets. Michelle Manafy, Editor-in-chief, EContent says “the EContent 100 list represents the most dynamic digital content companies as chosen by a panel made up of digital content industry experts. SDL demonstrates continued leadership in the content industry, shows continued technology innovation and has made some smart acquisitions building a distinctive group of products and services. This marks the fourth consecutive year that SDL has been recognized by EContent, with specific recognition for SDL Global Authoring Management System™ and SDL Tridion® this year, proving SDL's continuous commitment and expertise in managing content.”

Last month CareerOneStop, was awarded a Minnesota Tekne Award for the re-design of its CareerOneStop website built based around a content management system from SDL Tridion. The U.S. Department of Labor-funded website integrated SDL Tridion technology in order to better serve users looking for jobs in such difficult economic times. Jan Jaap Kolleman, CEO of SDL Tridion says "CareerOneStop has been one of our best customer examples to demonstrate what Web Content Management systems and solutions from SDL Tridion can do over multiple years.
