Michael Anobile

An international businessman with over 25 years experience in the IT sector, Michael Anobile received a Bachelors of Science degree in communications at Syracuse University, and participated in the Masters degree program in political communications at the University of Maryland. After relocating his family to Switzerland in 1980 to become European Training Manager for Exxon Office Systems, he subsequently held a number of European and Swiss management positions in the IT and language-technology industries, focusing on global business development and marketing. A founding member of LISA, and the Managing Director from its inception, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Association including outreach programs to other standards organizations (E.g., ISO Category A liaison member, IdeAlliance, Unicode, Openi18N, W3C, OASIS, etc.) and government agencies (E.g., US Department of Commerce, the European Union's Directorate General for Translation along with various Asian, Canadian and European language technology and national standards and trade bodies) as well as its international forums, training programs and industry marketing & public relations projects.

Cyril Chantrier

As Director of Strategic Partnerships and OEM at TEMIS, Cyril Chantrier develops alliances with software and content providers. He has 15 years experience in sales, sales management, marketing and partnering in the document management and linguistic software domain.

Before joining TEMIS, Cyril Chantrier had spent more than 10 years within Xerox Corporation in various sales, sales management positions and he later held the position of Sales & Marketing Manager of Xerox MKMS (Multilingual Knowledge Management Solutions) based in Grenoble (France). After five years of international business development, Cyril Chantrier later became the General Manager of Xerox Linguistics. In this capacity, he mostly focused on the valorization of Xerox linguistic assets based on innovative technologies issued from the Xerox Research Centre Europe. He met TEMIS' team in 2000 to sign a license agreement for XeLDA, the linguistic engine. In 2002, when TEMIS intended to acquire Xerox Linguistics, Cyril Chantrier successfully conducted the technology and team transfer, interfacing between the Xerox board and TEMIS.

Cyril Chantrier holds a Master's degree in Political Sciences (from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques) and in International Business & Management from EDHEC School of Lille (France).

Andrew Draheim

Andrew Draheim is an independent management consultant helping international companies to improve time-to-value and time-to-market. He does so by helping them to understand the individual challenges of their organizations, to identify the technology needed to address them, and to effectively implement the solutions.

Draheim has sixteen years of international experience managing operations in publishing, electronic publishing and localization worldwide. While Business Manager at The World Bank, Draheim implemented and managed one of the world's largest Globalization Translation Management System (GTMS) installations. He has also served as Managing Director for Central & Eastern Europe for Berlitz GlobalNet and Managing Director of HEP, the electronic publishing arm of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group that includes Scientific American, Henry Holt, Handelsblatt.

JoAnn T. Hackos, PhD

Dr. JoAnn Hackos is President of Comtech Services, a content-management and information-design firm based in Denver, which she founded in 1978. She directs the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), a membership organization focused on content-management and information-development best practices. Dr. Hackos is called upon by corporate executives worldwide to consult on strategies for content management, information design and development, organizational management, customer studies, information architecture, and tools and technology selection.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Hackos has addressed audiences internationally on subjects ranging from content management, project management, structured writing and minimal information products, usability studies, and online and Web-based information to managing the information design and development process. Her seminars are dedicated to enhancing the practices and products that will best promote customer satisfaction and increase productivity.

Alison Toon

Alison Toon has worked for Hewlett-Packard in 1991, originally as a usability engineer and technical author with localization responsibilities, for a networks division in Grenoble, France. After several years in this role, Alison moved on to creating, designing and introducing services such as web-based distribution of documentation and software to HP's support engineers.

Alison has been managing her localization program and team since 1997, growing the scope of responsibilities and increasing the team from one to many, and introducing centralized localization workflow tools to HP. The WW Operations CMS Translation and Localization team is now seen as an HP center of expertise for translation workflow.

Since July 2000, Alison has been based in Roseville, California. She manages a worldwide team responsible for the localization of web portals and services, and provides consulting to other HP organizations and program teams.

Before joining HP, Alison worked as an analyst-programmer and as a technical documentation consultant in various companies in the UK and the Netherlands.

Arle Lommel

Arle Lommel has over ten years or experience in document design and localization. Arle is currently Publications Manager and he is in charge of the publication of LISA documents. He has been active with LISA since 1996.

Rebecca Ray

Rebecca Ray is the Managing Editor for the Globalization Insider. She has been a pioneer in designing, testing, adapting and marketing software outside of the U.S. for companies such as IBM, Netscape Communications, Remedy (now part of BMC), Symantec and Sun Microsystems. She also has a strong background in machine translation and terminology tools, and co-authored the book, Doing Business in the USA: Marketing and Operations Strategies for Success. Ray is a Summa Cum Laude graduate with an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Indiana University and is fluent in English, French and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese and Turkish.

Dave A. Schell

Dave is a senior manager at IBM and is the management sponsor of DITA. Dave has been responsible for the development of the tools and strategy related to development of information in IBM for the past five years; this includes authoring tools, content management systems, and information delivery systems. His specialties range from the business side, with a focus on business justification of initiatives, to the technical side, focusing on use of metadata in the semantic web.

Andrzej Zydroń

Andrzej Zydroń was born in England. Educated in France he started working in IT in 1976. His experience has covered all aspects of computing, with in depth knowledge of Software Engineering, SGML, XML, encoding methodologies and translation memory. Highlights of his career include:

* The design and architecture of the European Patent Office patent data capture system for Xerox Business Services.

* The design and architecture of the Xerox Language Services XTM translation memory system in 1996.

* Author of XML and SGML filters for SDL International's SDLX Translation Suite.

* Assisting the Oxford University Press, the British Council and Oxford University in work on the New Dictionary of the National Biography.

Andrzej Zydroń is a member of the LISA OSCAR Steering Committee. He is the technical architect and editor of the GILT Metrics proposed specification suite, as well as editor of the proposed TBX Link specification. Zydroń also sits on the OASIS technical committees for Translation Web Services, XLIFF and XLIFF segmentation. He is also a W3C invited expert sitting on the W3C ITS technical committee.

As CTO for XML-Intl, he is currently developing the next generation of XML-based text memory systems to reduce authoring and translation costs for documentation. Zydroń is fluent in English, Polish and French.

Kara Warburton

Kara Warburton is responsible for defining IBM's terminology strategy, including tools, processes, and data management. Her primary goal is to extend the focus of terminology management from translation to content management. She is also a published author and public speaker on the subject.

Kara is a Canadian delegate to ISO TC 37, which defines ISO terminology standards, and the chair of the LISA Terminology Special Interest Group. She holds a Master's degree in Terminology from Universite' Laval and has held positions as translator, information developer and university professor.

Brenda Hall

Brenda Hall co-founded Austin Test and has been the company’s CEO since its inception in 2001. She is an industry-recognized expert on both the business and technological aspects of international product delivery.

Under her leadership, Austin Test, now known as Bridge360, has become known as the company of “go to experts” for technology companies who deploy their products around the globe.

Brenda has extensive industry experience, having worked at IBM, Compaq Computer, BMC Software, Cirrus Logic and several technology start-ups.

As a leader in the academic community, Brenda volunteers her expertise and time with the next generation of global project leaders, software developers and quality assurance professionals.

Brenda is extremely involved in the Austin technology and international communities as the Chairman of the Board for the International Center of Austin (ICA) and the Chairman for the Camino Real District Export Council for the State of Texas. She is a founder for the World Congress for Information Technology 2006 (WCIT) helping to win the bid for the City of Austin. She is part of the Executive Committee for the non-profit organization, Products and Systems International, and is a member of the Executive Women’s Forum of the Austin Women in Technology Association.

Gregg Okunami

Gregg Okunami has been with Hewlett-Packard (HP) since 1996, with varied responsibilties in quality, manufacturing, change management, and web customer experience. Since 2001, Gregg has been based in Roseville, California and has been on a team that is expanding the use of centralized localization workflow tools within HP. In this role, Gregg has worked with HP.com web teams, setting up their translation and test processes, helping them to reduce their costs, while improving their customer experience.

Before joining HP, Gregg had worked in manufacturing and field service, in the U.S. and Europe. He has a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Davis.

Hanan Lavy

Hanan started his career in 1989 in the real-time world, and then moved to work on virtual-reality dental surgery training systems.

In 1998 he joined a manufacturer of CAD collaboration systems. After serving in several R&D managerial positions for four years he departed, having achieved the position of Product Manager.

He has worked for Mercury for the last 3 years, in several R&D positions. He took charge of the International R&D group a year ago. He leads 25 employees located all over the world.

Hanan is 35 years old and holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Business Administration from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Björn Peltonen

Mr. Peltonen has been working in the technical communication business for over 10 years. His main responsibilities are business development and strategic global business. Business process development within technical communication has been one of his main focus areas.

He has been leading the Citec globalisation process by starting subsidiaries and business in Sweden, India and China.

Previous to his job at Citec he was actively working in different positions within management and sales & marketing.

Bobby Liao

Bobby Liao is the senior product manager responsible for globalization and localization at Palo Alto, California-based TIBCO Software Inc. During his 12 years at TIBCO, Mr. Liao has worked in product marketing, training, support and client technical services with TIBCO's global 2000 companies in financial services and high-tech manufacturing industries throughout Asia and North America. He is fluent in Mandarin, Taiwanese and English and conversational in Spanish and Japanese. Mr. Liao received his M.S. degree in computer science and undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering both from Stanford University.

Chris Durand

Chris Durand, an expert in software internationalization, is the Chief Information Officer at Bridge360. Chris provides strategic, architectural and technical knowledge to Austin Test and its clients.

Prior to joining Austin Test in 2003 (now known as Bridge360), Chris was a senior product developer specializing in internationalization at BMC Software. He created an international training program for developers and provided internal consulting on internationalization projects. Chris has also worked on a number of software projects at Cirrus Logic and IBM.

Chris holds an MBA with honors from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as a bachelor’s degree with honors in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Chris combines his business knowledge base with over 15 years of software development experience to assist clients in delivering high-quality, global software applications.

Jue Wang

Being the manager of Shanghai Globalization Lab, IBM China Development Lab, Jue Wang has the mission of building up a world-class team specialized in globalization solution development, and user technologies tool development. She leads the team delivering various services, including globalization solution development, globalization intergration test, globalization tool development, localization tool development, total information experience tool development, and user centered design, etc. Jue Wang received her master degree of computer science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1998, and worked for IBM since then. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

John Hammond

John Hammond is Senior Product Manager, Trade, Supply Chain and Logistics Integration at Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong, responsible for global product development. With over 25 years of electronic commerce experience in logistics and supply chain management, he currently serves as "Shepherd" to the E-Logistics group of the Hong Kong SAR Government LOGSCOUNCIL and is involved in the DTTN (Digital Trade and Transportation Network) project that is currently in pilot stage. Mr. Hammond is also a Round Table Member and the Treasurer of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.

Jimmy Lu holds a master of science in physics from Lund University. He has been responsible for the development of D-Localizer at Teleca since 1999. He has a complete understanding of all the pitfalls that can occur during the localization and translation of menu texts, from a technical as well as a process point of view.

Melanie G. Flanders

Melanie G. Flanders is a senior technical writer with a software company in Nanjing, China. She is also Chief Information Architect for KnowledgeMasters, Inc. a company based in Houston, Texas that provides information architecture, design, and development services, training, and consulting. Before relocating to Nanjing in April 2005, she spent five years as an adjunct professor at University of Houston-Downtown and instructor for Houston Community College, where she taught business and technical writing, electronic publishing, software manuals, and FrameMaker. She continues to serve on the Houston Community College Curriculum Advisory Board.

Ms. Flanders has over 27 years' practical experience as a technical communicator and is an Associate Fellow in the Society for Technical Communication. She speaks American and British English, Spanish, French, and Japanese, and is making rapid progress in learning to speak and read Mandarin. Ms. Flanders is currently finishing a book entitled Unleashing the Power of FrameMaker: Mastering the Basics, ISBN 1-929907-50-8.

Dr. Andrew Bredenkamp

Dr. Andrew Bredenkamp, has over 15 years experience as a technical consultant in practical applications of language technology, especially in multilingual content production and knowledge management. Until starting acrolinx at the beginning of 2002, Dr. Bredenkamp was head of the Technology Transfer Centre at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) Language Technology Lab. He has initiated and led projects with globally active customers in the telecommunications, banking, engineering and software sectors.

Feiyu Xu

Feiyu Xu studied technical translation at Tongji University in Shanghai and computational linguistics at Saarland University. Since 1998 she has been working at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) where she is now Senior Software Engineer and Project Leader at the Language Technology Lab.

She has extensive experience with building multilingual and monolingual information systems, question answering and shallow language processing. She is currently leading the binational Chinese-German project COMPASS 2008 dedicated to building multilingual mobile information services for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Kamal El Wattar

Mr. El-Wattar is the Operations Manager for Rainbow in Beijing. He manages the delivery of hundreds of localization projects per year in all major Asian languages. Additionally, he is responsible for Rainbow off-shore publishing and engineering solutions that are offered in over 20 languages. Prior to working at Rainbow he was a Business Analyst for Bowne Global Solutions and was the founder of GlobalNet, a Seattle-based international marketing company. He holds a degree in Linguistics from the University of Manchester, U.K.

Marion joined the Translation & Localization team in 2000, as localization Project Manager. As part of this team, she is responsible for managing the localization of web portals and services, and providing consulting to other HP organizations and program teams.

Richard, based in Hong Kong, is responsible for SDL’s operations in Asia outside of Japan. Richard has a background in software development, has 10 years experience in various industry management positions in Asia. Current responsibilities including management responsibility for SDL’s offices in Asia, growing SDL’s business in East Asia and developing SDL’s offshore solutions.

David Chen

David Chen has diversified experience in software engineering, management consulting, sales, and marketing. He oversees the daily operation of Worksoft. David played major roles in establishing several key accounts to include PeopleSoft and a leading global bank. David also successfully extended our services into the telecommunications industry with deals from Qualcomm, Panasonic Mobile, and UTStarcom.

Before joining Worksoft, David was a development manager at Asera, a leading B2B software company based in Silicon Valley. He had been a product manager at IBM Crosswords, a management consultant at KPMG Consulting, and a software engineer at OracleЎЇs ERP development group.

David Chen received his M.S. degree in computer engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Tongji University, China.

George Lu

George is responsible for SDL’s operations in China, based in Shenzhen. George has worked at the Shenzhen office with over 10 years experience in the localization industry, George took full responsibility for SDL China in 2004. George currently manages a team of 80 covering functions that include Chinese translation, multi-lingual DTP, Project Management for local and international clients, Desktop products sales and support. George is currently studying for an MBA at Beijing University.

Shirley Yeng

Shirley has been in the localization arena for the past 13 years. Having worked as an I18N software engineer, and subsequently involved in localization project management and senior management role, she finds her calling to be an entrepreneur in 1996. Together with her partners, she set up her own I18N and L10N company, ALSC Consultancy. Only a year into the business, the impressive track record of their main stream of clientele and strong capabilities in Asian localization attracts the eye of an international localization group, LMI who acquired the operation to be their Asian localization arm. Based in Singapore, Shirley worked in LMI, Berlitz GlobalNET and Bowne Global Solutions as their client service manager and senior sales manager.

Today, Shirley is the Senior Sales and Marketing Director for E-C Translation group spearheading their international business development together with her Chinese colleague, Dr James Wei.

Javier Solá

Javier Solá is co-director of *WordForge*, a project that attempts to facilitate localization of Free and Open Source software by producing a complete set of state-of-the-art tools for computers-assisted localization, based on the LISA standards. He is also the Coordinator of the *KhmerOS* Initiative, a distributed open project aimed at producing and deploying Free and Open Source software (FOSS) in Khmer language (the main language of Cambodia).

After studying at Duke University and Ohio State University in the 80’s – where he did some work on Natural language processing -, Javier became a researcher on Artificial Intelligence in France for four years, and

then served for almost a decade as Director of the Spanish Internet Users Association, supporting the development of the Internet in Spain.

Clifts Zhong

Clifts Zhong is the leader of a young group of talents in translation, interpreting, and localization. He has been in the arena for more than six years. His team specialises in four major fields: Finance, Legal, Civil Engineering, and Automotive.

Before serving with Lanbridge, he worked for Sichuan Telecom Construction Engineering Company as the installation manager.

Clifts received his B. A. from Chongqing University in 2000 and is an experienced translator and interpreter in politics and law.

David Yan

David Yan is an interpreter and translator with over 10 years of experience in the culture, education and international communication sectors. He received a PH. D. of Comparative Literature and Word Literature at Nanjing Normal University. His major interpretation experiences include “International Symposium on Semiotics and Humanities” (March 2004), “The 1st International Symposium on World Civilizations” (November 2003) and some other important international activities. During 2002 to 2003, David Yan worked at York University and Northrop Frye Center, University of Toronto (Canada) with sponsorship from CCSEP (China-Canada Scholar Exchange Program) as a visiting scholar. David Yan is now the vice Dean of Translation and Interpretation Department of School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Nanjing Normal University. He devotes himself to the research of translation theory and application in localization service for enterprises in China, particularly in Jiangsu Province.
