Michael Anobile
Managing Director, LISA

An international businessman with over 25 years experience in the IT sector, Michael Anobile received a Bachelors of Science degree in communications at Syracuse University, and participated in the Masters degree program in political communications at the University of Maryland. After relocating his family to Switzerland in 1980 to become European Training Manager for Exxon Office Systems, he subsequently held a number of European and Swiss management positions in the IT and language-technology industries, focusing on global business development and marketing. A founding member of LISA, and the Managing Director from its inception, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Association including outreach programs to other standards organizations (E.g., ISO Category A liaison member, IdeAlliance, Unicode, Openi18N, W3C, OASIS, etc.) and government agencies (E.g., US Department of Commerce, the European Union's Directorate General for Translation along with various Asian, Canadian and European language technology and national standards and trade bodies) as well as its international forums, training programs and industry marketing & public relations projects.

Johanne Boucher
Manager, AMEX Canada Translation Services and President of AILIA

Johanne Boucher, C. Tr, holds a Bachelor's degree in translation from the Universite de Montreal.

She worked at IBM Canada Ltd. for 20 years, first as technical translator and then as Manager, Translation Operations. After a two-year assignment in software development in California, she worked at the IBM's HQ in Markham (Ontario) and in Montreal as Software Marketing Programs Manager from 1991 to 1996.

She returned to translation as Manager, Linguistic Services, Societe Radio-Canada from 1996 to 1998. She currently manages the Montreal Translation Unit at AMEX Canada Inc.

Johanne Boucher has been an active member of the Association of Linguistic Services Managers (ACGL) in the 1980s and was president of this association for three years form 1998 to 2000. She represented ACGL on the Canadian Translation Industry Sectoral Committee.

She was president of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interpretes agreees du Quebec from May 2000 to May 2003.

She is currently vice president of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC).

And, she has been elected President of AILIA (the Canadian Language Industry Association) in September 2004.

Pierre Cadieux
President, i18N Inc.

Pierre Cadieux is technology editor for the LISA newsletter and the president of i18N Inc. (www.i18n.ca), a firm specializing in internationalisation training and consulting. Pierre has over twenty years experience in the industry; his globalisation experience covers embedded systems, shrink-wrap software and Web sites.

Formerly VP Technology at Alis Technologies Inc., he pioneered the transparent handling of Arabic and Hebrew languages and created the core bi-directional technology licensed by Microsoft. At Alis, he designed the internationalisation strategy for all products, including the TANGO multilingual Web browser. He has sat on CSA and ISO committees on character sets and multilingual data coding.

As Director of Localisation Technology at Bowne Global Solutions, he carried out research and analysis on multilingual Web sites and published the first generic model of Globalisation Management Systems.

Gitte Christensen
International Web Strategist, BMC Software

Gitte Christensen is the International Web Strategist at BMC Software, Inc. In this position Ms. Christensen is responsible for the company's international web strategy creation and implementation. BMC Software holds today 37 international web sites. Ms Christensen joined BMC Software in 1992 as the Nordic Marketing Coordinator, followed by a position as Customer Communication Manager for EMEA before she joined the web team in 1999. Ms. Christensen holds an Executive MBA in Global e-Management from Copenhagen Business School.

Philippe De Sainte Maresville
Director, Hewlett-Packard Worldwide Localization Center

Philippe De Sainte Maresville is the director of Hewlett-Packard Localization Management Center. He created this business unit 15 years, and is responsible for providing a worldwide one-stop localization solution center to Hewlett-Packard businesses and external partners. Prior to HPLMC Philippe worked and then managed HP French Localization Center in Grenoble - France. His 22 years of experience in the Localization and Internationalization space has given him a deep understanding of this industry.

Philippe is one of the co-Founders of LISA.

Philippe graduated from Grenoble University and holds a Master's Degree in System Programming. Additionally Philippe is member of the HP Coaching Network. He holds several qualifications in people and team development as Mentor and Coach.

Arta Doci
Localization Software Engineer, Avaya Inc.

Arta Doci is currently working as part time faculty at University of Colorado, Denver. She is teaching Software Engineering and Security. Lately Arta joined AVAYA Inc. as Software Engineer III with AVAYA ECAD Globalization & Information Development.

The research interests include software engineering and data mining in general. Current focus of Arta Doci is automation, particularly of VoIP protocols and localized software applications.

Jocelyne Doyle-Rodrigue
Director, Canadian Government Translation Bureau

Jocelyne Doyle-Rodrigue has acquired extensive experience in the translation profession in the private sector as well as the public service. She started at the Translation Bureau in the early 1970s in the Canada Labour Relations Board (CLRB) unit. From 1975 to 1978, Ms. Doyle-Rodrigue headed the Translation group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada), now the Canadian Union of Professional and Technical Employees, which she co-founded. Then, in 1979, she was appointed head of the CLRB translation unit. In 1980, she founded and managed her own company, Les Traductions Excelcom/Translex Inc., which became the largest translation company in Canada. In 1997, Ms. Doyle-Rodrigue sold her company to Lexi-Tech International Inc. In 2000, she made a return to her original profession and became an autonomous translator. Finally, in November 2001, she rejoined the Bureau as manager of Sectoral Development (Business Development). She now holds the position of Director, Multilingual Translation, Regions and National Security.

Jocelyne Doyle-Rodrigue holds an honours degree in translation from the Universite de Montreal. She is a certified member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario, of which she was president from 1990 to 1992. She has sat on various groups and committees, including the Canadian Translation Industry Sectoral Committee (co-chair), the Regroupement des gens d'affaires de l'Outaouais (secretary-treasurer) and the board of the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa-Carleton (president). She received in 1996 the award of excellence for company of the year in the medium- and large-sized business category from the Regroupement des gens d'affaires de l'Outaouais and the Businesswomen's Achievement Award for businesswoman of the year in the Ottawa-Hull region from the Women's Business Network Association of Ottawa in 1991.

Andrew Draheim
Consultant, World Bank Group

Andrew Draheim has 16 years of international experience in managing operations in publishing, electronic publishing, and localization. Before he joined the World Bank as Business Manager, Translation & Interpretation in March 2000, he worked as Managing Director for Central & Eastern Europe for Berlitz GlobalNet and also served as a member of the company's global strategy planning team. Prior to Berlitz he worked as Managing Director of HEP, the electronic publishing arm of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group (Scientific American, Henry Holt, Handelsblatt) in New York.

Under Andrew's leadership the World Bank's translation unit modernized its business and production practices. In particular, his team implemented a global translation management system, Globalsight Ambassador. The web-based system helps improve workflow management processes, manage and share a global knowledge base with resources in client countries, and facilitate virtual teamwork.

Andrew now works as an independent consultant. As such he continues to work with the World Bank implementing translation production hubs in developing countries and piloting a telework program for translators and project managers.

Dan Dube
Director, Business Development, Innodata Isogen

Mr. Dube has over 18 years of experience in business process re-engineering and implementation of complex information management systems, including three years as the Founder and President of Lighthouse Solutions Inc., an XML systems integration company.

He has led the implementations of approximately seventy XML-based content management and publishing systems around the world in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, legal publishing, aviation, automotive, insurance and software documentation. He designed and managed the implementation of automated localization systems, based on XML components, that are currently used in production at several Global 2000 companies.

Mr. Dube is the chief architect of the VisionMapping methodology used by Innodata Isogen consultants for business process analysis engagements.

Eastern Regional Sales Manager, Vasont Systems

As Eastern Regional Sales Manager, Bret Freeman is responsible for sales in the eastern United States and Canada. He also performs Vasont system installations, client training, and technical support for Vasont's sales force. JoAnn Hackos
Director, Center for Information Development Management

Dr. JoAnn Hackos is President of Comtech Services, a content-management and information-design firm based in Denver, Colorado, which she founded in 1978. She is Director of the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), a membership organization focused on content-management and information-development best practices. Dr. Hackos and colleagues are called upon by corporate executives worldwide to consult on strategies for content management, development and organizational management, product interface design, customer studies, web and traditional information architecture, and tools and technology selection.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Hackos has addressed audiences internationally on subjects ranging from content management, project management, effective interfaces and information, minimal information products, usability testing, and online and web-based information, to managing the information design and development process. Her workshops are dedicated to enhancing the practices and products that will best promote customer satisfaction.

She authored Content Management for Dynamic Web Delivery (Wiley 2002), Managing Your Documentation Projects (Wiley 1994), Standards for Online Communication (Wiley 1997), and User and Task Analysis for Interface Design (Wiley 1998). JoAnn is a Fellow and Past President of the International Society for Technical Communication (STC).

Nancy Harrison
Information Architect / GILT Specialist, IBM

Nancy Harrison of IBM has over 20 years experience as an writer, information architect, and globalization specialist. Fluent in Japanese, she has worked on globalization projects as a project manager, trainer, and localization tester.

Nancy began working on SGML/XML document architectures in the early 1990s. She was part of the original development team for the DocBook DTD, a defacto standard for open source computer documentation.

Her current focus is on DITA - Darwin Information Typing Architecture - an extensible XML architecture created at IBM and currently under development as an open standard under OASIS. DITA is an architecture that promotes topic-based authoring and that can be specialized to meet the needs of a variety of user communities, without sacrificing content interchangability.

Patrick Klaassen
XML Business Consultant, Scriptware

Patrick Klaassen - XML Business consultant at Scriptware - has a background in engineering and is widely experienced in implementing and developing XML based CMS systems. Starting out at Stork TPS many years ago, he became part of the SGML Engineering team at Alpnet. It then became clear to him that content management systems based on world standards would become a leading force. Working at Lighthouse in the US in 2001 and later on at DDS in the Netherlands gave him the opportunity to deploy standards like XML with some leading US and Dutch companies. Currently he is one of the driving forces in the newly announced web-hosted CMS solution.

Mr. Michael Klinger is the Managing Director of the Globalization practice for COMSYS. COMSYS is a 600 million dollar IT consulting business. Mr. Klinger manages a worldwide globalization team providing outsourcing and staffing solutions to clients including HP, Microsoft, EMC and Oracle. He has spent over fifteen years in the globalization industry. His focus has been on vendor side management, sales, project management and translation services. Dan Kuperstein
Director, Director Globalization, EMC Corporation

Daniel Kuperstein has extensive international marketing and management experience in the high technology industry.

Currently he is the Director of EMC Corporation's enterprise globalization efforts. In this position, he is responsible for the corporation's overall globalization strategy and management of the company's worldwide program office. Mr. Kuperstein began his career at EMC in 1997 responsible for all global online marketing properties.

Formerly, he was Managing Editor of Soft-Letter, a newsletter focusing on business issues and trends in personal computer software publishing. At Soft-Letter, Mr. Kuperstein also managed and deployed various first-generation e-business web sites. He began his career at McGraw-Hill as an economic analyst and reporter for various publications.

He holds a B.A. from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and an MBA in International Management and Marketing from Suffolk University.

Benson Margulies
Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer, Basis Technology

Benson drives the Basis Technology team in helping customers set and meet their multilingual technology goals. Benson accepted the position of COO after successfully leading the company's Technical Services team and establishing the technical vision as CTO. Projects he has led include: creation of a global retail platform handling inventory management, online ordering and fulfillment, and customer service; delivery of a globalized high transaction rate, deeply integrated financial management platform; and customization and delivery of an enterprise-class customer service e-mail management tool into multiple countries. Prior to Basis Technology, Benson held technical and management positions at Kendall Square Research, Symbolics, Object Design, and Honeywell Information Systems. Benson holds a degree in Computer Science from MIT.

Kenneth (Sandy) McKethan, Jr.
Globalization Project Manager, IBM

Kenneth (Sandy) McKethan, Jr. is a globalization project manager for IBM's Tivoli division. He is a foreign language professional with over 30 years of progressive experience in both Europe and the U.S. in various facets of the language industry: as a translator and interpreter; in recruiting, sales, marketing, and international business development; vendor management; as well as project management in a multinational virtual team environment. In 2002, he received certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute. In 1979, he was certified as a technical interpreter and translator (German-English) by the German government (Staatlich geprüfter Dolmetscher und Übersetzer für die englische Sprache [Technik]). He served as a court-sworn interpreter in Munich, Germany. He holds the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol).

Bill Rabkin
WorldServer Product Evangelist, Idiom Technologies, Inc.

Mr. Rabkin is a WorldServer™ product evangelist with Idiom Technologies. In this role, Mr. Rabkin promotes the widespread use of XML and DITA-based publishing solutions to technical documentation organizations throughout the world. Recently, he has been involved in the design of a worldwide publishing system for a major multinational manufacturing company. Before joining Idiom, Mr. Rabkin was a senior technical evangelist with Rational Software (now IBM Rational Software) as well as Sybase, Inc. He completed his Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Computer Sciences at Boston University and graduate studies in Business Administration at Babson College. Mr. Rabkin is a frequent speaker at content management industry conferences and Webinars.

Zoltan Rasko
Project Manager & Language Lead, Skrivanek Translation Services

After earning his degree as a Translator of German and English at the College for Foreign Trade in Budapest, Hungary in 1995, Zoltan Rasko (31) was for a short time employed as a translator of German at a company dealing in building machinery.

Soon he went on to gather field experience by first becoming an international sales representative for a limited liability company dealing in the sale of machinery and steel structures for loading liquid and liquefied materials as well as trading with proprietary recycling equipment.

Looking for new challenges and experience after over 3 years he joined the staff of Vodafone newly entering the Hungarian mobile telecommunications market as a sales representative.

After 1 year, having contributed to the establishment of Vodafone as a brand in Hungary he went on to become a member of staff at Moravia Translations, later Moravia WorldWide. He started as a software localizer to be soon promoted to proofreader and after just over 8 months he became Language Lead on one of the major localization projects of Moravia, an Oracle CRM/ERP Applications projects. He also had smaller assignments on Microsoft and Compaq/HP projects. During his three and a half year career, he gained insight into the characteristics and difficulties of localization into Hungarian and in general. He gathered extensive experience in the technical and linguistic requirements set toward localization vendors by software corporations, and also trained himself into terminology and glossary building, TM management, CAT tool usage (incl. proprietary tools developed by Oracle and others).

In late 2003, he went on to join the Hungarian branch of Skrivanek Translation Services as a Project Manager and Language Lead. After being involved in general project management for the initial train-in period, his focus is now mainly on complex localization and major multi-phase translation projects that require CAT usage, initial terminology creation and constant terms management. The largest project of this kind is the one completed for PeopleSoft in Germany including a 3-week on-site localization and another 3-week on-site testing phase in PeopleSoft's own environment.

Matta Saikali
VP Testing Services, i18N Inc.

Matta Saikali is Vice-President Testing Services at i18N Inc., a firm specializing in internationalization training and consulting. Matta has more than ten years experience in internationalization and localization testing. His testing experience covers more than 30 languages including European, Asian, Arabic, Hindi, etc.

Formerly Director of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) at Gemplus, Matta built up and managed a team of 35 SQA professionals responsible for the testing of the original English version as well as all globalised versions of Windows applications and embedded systems (smart cards) in European and Asian languages.

As Director of SQA at Purkinje, Matta built up and managed the testing team for a multilingual multi-user client-server application for clinical data entry.

Matta was also SQA team leader at ALIS where he was involved in testing all ALIS products, notably their Arabic/Farsi product line.

Yves Savourel
Localisation Solutions Architect, ENLASO

Yves Savourel has been involved in internationalisation and localisation for more than a decade, first at International Language Engineering (ILE), then at Sykes Enterprises, and now at the ENLASO. While giving internationalisation classes and consulting, his main focus has always been on developing tools and solutions for localisation processes, often including SGML and XML aspects.

Yves has been involved in the creation of various localisation-related standards, such as OpenTag, the Translation Memory eXchange format (TMX), and the XML Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF). He is also working in other XML-related activities in the localisation industry, and is the author of "XML Internationalisation and Localisation".

Yves is a native of Brittany and lived in France, Africa and on islands of the Indian Ocean before settling in Boulder, Colorado.

Dave Schell

Dave is a senior manager at IBM and is the management sponsor of DITA. Dave has been responsible for the development of the tools and strategy related to development of information in IBM for the past five years; this includes authoring tools, content management systems, and information delivery systems. His specialties range from the business side, with a focus on business justification of initiatives, to the technical side, focusing on use of metadata in the semantic web.

Bill Seawick
Chief Marketing Officer, TRADOS Inc.

Bill Seawick is Chief Marketing Officer of TRADOS Incorporated, which helps companies go to market globally. He brings to TRADOS more than 20 years of executive marketing and branding experience at leading technology companies such as Apple, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Ernst & Young/Kanisa, Blaze Software, and Blue Pumpkin.

During his tenure as CMO at Blue Pumpkin, Mr. Seawick successfully rebranded and transformed the company from a single-product vendor to an enterprise solutions provider, resulting in the capture of broader markets and accelerated revenue growth. As Vice President of Marketing at Blaze Software, he led critical initiatives that helped the company triple its revenue growth, successfully complete an IPO, and achieve a premium acquisition price of $580 million.

As Senior Director of Marketing for Oracle, Mr. Seawick architected and managed global marketing for the company's $450 million education and training business. Responsibilities included strategy development and marketing implementation for Oracle's Learning Architecture, the industry's first product and service for delivering on-line education. At Sun, Mr. Seawick held executive positions managing marketing and alliances for three startup lines of businesses: pioneering commercial market segment focus as the company moved from a technical workstation vendor to enterprise solution provider, building a systems integration division, and managing business development for Internet products including Java. At Apple, Mr. Seawick was a founding member of the company's Strategic Investment Group. Mr. Seawick holds an MBA from Cornell University.

Tolga Secilmis
Business Development Manager, ES Ltd.

Born in 1973, Tolga Secilmis received his University Degree as a Mechanical Engineer in Yildiz Technical University

He has been in the localization industry for 6 years and has leaded ES technical group for several years. Recently he holds the position of Business Development in ES LTD. Tolga started his career as a Computer Trainer and worked in that position for 2 years for several companies. He started working for ES in 1999 and during that period he has managed and participated in several technical projects.

In addition, he has been involved in Audio and Video technologies since 1999 and he is responsible for handling multimedia projects in ES.

Eric Silberstein
CTO & Founder, Idiom Technologies

Eric Silberstein founded Idiom Technologies in 1998 and is the company's chief technology officer and visionary. He first became interested in content globalization while working for Microsoft on the Microsoft Word localization team, first in the Redmond office and then in Beijing. He has been a chief contributor to the design and implementation of major content globalization solutions for eBay, Travelocity, Autodesk, Adobe, and Information Builders - and guided the companies decision to implement support for DITA in Idiom solutions. Silberstein completed his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at Harvard University, and is a frequent speaker at content management industry events.

Associate Professor of Marketing, California State University, Chico

Nitish Singh is Associate Professor of Marketing at California State University, Chico. He joined California State University in Chico, fall of 2003 after obtaining his Ph.D. in Marketing and International Business from Saint Louis University (2003), USA. Most of his undergraduate and post-graduate (Masters degrees) work was done in India and the U.K. He currently teaches courses in E-Marketing, Consumer Behavior and Strategic Marketing. Singh's primary research interests focus on international e marketing and cross-cultural consumer behavior.

He has published a series of journal articles exploring the issue of web site localization, and is continuously expanding on this research stream to web site adaptation issues across Europe, Asia and Latin America. His research has been presented in more than 25 national and international conferences and he has publications in journals like: Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing Review, Psychology & Marketing, Multinational Business Review, Journal of Global Information management, Journal of Computer mediated communications and others. Recently he has published a book titled "The Culturally Customized Web Site."

William J. Sullivan
Program Director Globalization Manager, IBM

Bill Sullivan has worked for IBM for more than a quarter century and in the globalization arena for 12 years. During that time he has worked with hundreds of software and hardware products from laptops to mass spectrometers. He has also served as a globalization consultant to IBM solution and service providers supporting a broad range of industries. He is currently Program Director for Globalization and manages a worldwide team of globalization subject matter experts. Bill is a member of the LISA Executive Committee and provides strategic direction to the organization.

Marcia Sweezey
Manager of Localization & Editing, Kronos Inc.

As the International Program Manager of a one-thousand person operation, Marcia forged a path for GILT in the 1980s by defining "I18n" for technical writers in actionable terms and by measuring its impact on costs and times to market. In the early '90s, she co-authored the book Developing International User Information and defined the new role of translation coordinator to bridge the gap between source writing and localization teams for Digital Equipment Corporation. Since then, Marcia's roles included independent internationalization consultant, International Program Manager for FTP Corporation, and Program Manager for the Kodak Corporation. Marcia has worked directly with localization specialists from all over the world. Currently, as the Localization Manager for Kronos, Inc., she leads the localization operation and defines the roles of the in-house team.

Jeffrey Tarter
Executive Director, Association of Support Professionals

Jeffrey Tarter is executive director of the Association of Support Professionals, which he founded in 1995. He was also the founding editor and publisher of Softletter, a widely-respected software industry newsletter that he edited until last year. An award-winning analyst and commentator, he is frequently quoted by the business and trade press.

Alison Toon
Translation and Localization Manager, Content Management Services, Hewlett-Packard

Alison Toon has worked for Hewlett-Packard in 1991, originally as a usability engineer and technical author with localization responsibilities, for a networks division in Grenoble, France. After several years in this role, Alison moved on to creating, designing and introducing services such as web-based distribution of documentation and software to HP's support engineers.

Alison has been managing her localization program and team since 1997, growing the scope of responsibilities and increasing the team from one to many, and introducing centralized localization workflow tools to HP. The WW Operations CMS Translation and Localization team is now seen as an HP center of expertise for translation workflow.

Since July 2000, Alison has been based in Roseville, California. She manages a worldwide team responsible for the localization of web portals and services, and provides consulting to other HP organizations and program teams.

Before joining HP, Alison worked as an analyst-programmer and as a technical documentation consultant in various companies in the UK and the Netherlands.

Michael Witt

Gregory Zaretsky
CEO, One Planet Corporation

Gregory Zaretsky the founder and CEO of One Planet, has extensive experience in the GILT industry. He has been providing GILT services for the past twenty-six years, originally as the founder of The Corporate Word and now at One Planet. When The Corporate Word was sold in 1996, the company had offices throughout the U.S., France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Holland, Moscow, Warsaw, and China. Gregory also speaks at educational institutions and corporations and writes articles on international marketing, strategic inflection points, and other corporate development issues facing international corporations.

Andrzej Zydroń
CTO, XML-Intl Ltd.

Andrzej Zydroń was born in England. Educated in France he started working in IT in 1976. His experience has covered all aspects of computing, with in depth knowledge of Software Engineering, SGML, XML, encoding methodologies and translation memory. Highlights of his career include:

  • The design and architecture of the European Patent Office patent data capture system for Xerox Business Services.
  • The design and architecture of the Xerox Language Services XTM translation memory system in 1996.
  • Author of XML and SGML filters for SDL International's SDLX Translation Suite.
  • Assisting the Oxford University Press, the British Council and Oxford University in work on the New Dictionary of the National Biography.

Andrzej Zydroń is a member of the LISA OSCAR Steering Committee. He is the technical architect and editor of the GILT Metrics proposed specification suite, as well as editor of the proposed TBX Link specification. Zydroń also sits on the OASIS technical committees for Translation Web Services, XLIFF and XLIFF segmentation. He is also a W3C invited expert sitting on the W3C ITS technical committee.

As CTO for XML-Intl, he is currently developing the next generation of XML-based text memory systems to reduce authoring and translation costs for documentation. Zydroń is fluent in English, Polish and French.
